How People Deal With Persistent Heartburn

Millions of people around the world everyday have to deal with heartburn. However, there are a number of those people that deal with persistent heartburn. This is a case where you are getting heartburn more than twice a week (sometimes even more than that). Heartburn is the pain that you are going to feel because of reflux or GERD. It is very important that you talk to your doctor first before trying to take on persistent heartburn by yourself. If your heartburn keeps on, it can cause a number of health problems including chest pain, and in some cases, heart attack. The good news is that there are some things that you can do to deal with your persistent heartburn, and there are some other things that your doctor can give you that could possibly help as well. You do not have to do this alone!

Having heartburn from time to time is very normal, but if you are having heartburn more than twice a week, then there could be a big problem. If you do not go seek medical help, then there is a good chance that you are putting your health in serious risk. Most of the time you are going to see this kind of heartburn in adults, however, this does not mean that it will not effect kids as well. Pediatric GERD (or heartburn that effects kids under 20) is becoming very well known. If you think that you are having persistent heartburn there are a few symptoms that you should look for. Things like difficulty swallowing food or drink, a burning chest, or a sore throat. Also, if you have food that travels back up to the month after you swallow it, this could be a sign. The best thing to do at first is to go talk to your doctor. Only then will you know if this is something that you can handle yourself, or if you are going to need medication.

First of all, there are a number of things that you can do to help cure your persistent heartburn yourself. This involves things like changing what you eat and other lifestyle habits. If you are having this type of heartburn lay off the spicy foods, and try not to drink thinks that are high in acid. Do not be drinking a lot of coffee and no more beer. There are also a lot of fruits that you should stay away form, because of all the acid in them. By changing some of the things that you eat, then you can more than likely stop your heartburn yourself. If you are having heartburn, and you want to stop it, try drinking some low fat or non fat milk. Simply eating on a piece of celery could also get rid of heartburn. Also, do not eat 2 to 3 hours before you go to bed.

Persistent Heartburn

If you are not able to stop it yourself, then you are going to have to ask your doctor about different types of medications. Sure there are the anti-acids that you can by in your local store, but there are a few other things that your doctor can get you if the anti-acids are not enough. Things like H2 blockers and even inhibitors can neutralize acid production in your stomach. If there is less acid, you have less of a chance of it coming back up your esophagus. If your doctor finds out that there has already been damage done to your esophagus, then you may have to go with other medications. The good news is that there are medications out there that can help stop stomach acid from rising, and help heel your esophagus all at the same time.

It is hard to live with something like persistent heartburn, and if you do not do something about it, you are going to be doing some real damage to your body. This is not something that you should just pass off at nothing, if you are having problems with it, go talk to your doctor right away. The quicker you stop something like this, the less damage it can do, and the happier you are going to be. So go see your doctor right away if you think that you have this. It could be the best shot you have at stopping it early.
